Destination strategy, the GETI framework, and economic impact.
Week 5: Design Your Own Event
Event concept creation and production, building toward your Mini-Event Concept.
Week 6: Present & Launch
Pitching your event concept, portfolio assembly, and career direction planning.
Learning Outcomes
- Define event tourism and its relationship to the wider tourism, leisure, and experience economies, using established frameworks (Leiper, Getz, Pine & Gilmore)
- Classify events using the ISET 15-category taxonomy and explain visitor motivations for each type
- Describe the 9 career pathways in event tourism and articulate your own preliminary career direction
- Use AI-powered tools (ZAR AI, the EventZR platform) to research events, explore destinations, and interpret data dashboards
- Apply event-planning principles to design a credible mini-event concept within real budget, audience, and location constraints
- Observe a LIVE event using ISET's 4-Layer Observer Framework and produce a structured observation report
- Produce a professional Career Discovery Portfolio documenting your learning, reflections, and practical outputs
